Must have experience with NASA, Government approved Industry, or DoD software assurance requirements, standards, manuals and handbooks, and assessing compliance with these products. Must understand the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test) and the entry and exit criteria associated with Program/Project milestone reviews including waterfall and agile methodologies. ASICs, FPGAs) and programmable logic devices and their use in complex aerospace systems. Must have a working knowledge of complex electronics (e.g. Must have experience performing software safety and testing activities related to embedded software systems and associated technical products. The engineer will support test events to ensure verification of safety controls.The engineer must be willing and able to collaborate with engineering organization. The engineer will assist other engineers as a technical point of contact on mission requirements.The candidate will support development and implementation of safety engineering approaches assuring compliance with NASA safety polices and standards for hardware and software.The candidate will assess the completeness of engineering hazard analysis and corresponding definition of causes and controls as related to software.The candidate will assess the completeness of engineering software requirements.The candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the System Safety Assessment for the avionics test lab and the simulation and modeling software in support of Artemis program.The candidate will support the hardware Avionics team in analysis of safety impacts and controls within software.The candidate will perform software assurance functions for one or more NASA programs at MSFC.The predominant function for the safety engineer will be to support the Artemis Program in the Integrated Avionics Test Facility.
The Software Safety Engineer will be responsible for the following activities in support of programs across the MSFC and primarily the Space Launch System (SLS) program: Software Assurance (SA) analyses and assessments related to quality, reliability, and safety review and analysis of engineering design concepts and software assurance plans and assuring compliance with NASA safety polices and standards for software.
